In 1975, Barrie commenced his insurance career at National and General Insurance in Brisbane and in 1981, he was appointed as local manager for the Sunshine Coast. Barrie joined AMP General Insurance in 1986 and worked in Brisbane, Toowoomba and the Gold Coast.

Barrie joined Professional Insurance Agencies in 1997 as partner and director. Over the years, he has also served on several industry associations. In 2006, Barrie was awarded an OAM at the Queen’s birthday honours for his services to Surf Life Saving. He is an associate of the Australia and New Zealand Insurance Institute and maintains a CIP status.

Barrie is accredited in domestic and commercial insurance products and is an Authorised Representative of Resilium Insurance Broking Pty Limited.
